What Is Tumescent Liposuction?

Tumescent liposuction is known as the gold standard when it comes to liposuction techniques. It stands miles above traditional liposuction methods, because it uses specialized microcannula and anesthetic solutions to reduce your fat and contour your body.

The word “tumescent” means swollen and firm. The tumescent solution used in this technique swells and firms the fat cells, making removal easier.

The Liposuction Procedure

Tumescent liposuction can take three hours or more, depending on the amount of fat to be removed. First, the tumescent solution is injected into the targeted site. The solution flows into the fatty tissue layer, causing the fat to become swollen and firm.

Next, the surgeon creates tiny incisions in the treatment area. The microcannula is inserted into one of these incisions. It is moved back and forth to loosen the fat cells from their surrounding tissues. The fat is transported out through the cannula tube via medical suction. After all the desired fat is suctioned away, the procedure is complete.

The Liposuction Recovery Process

Once you have returned home following liposuction, the healing process will begin. You will be prescribed pain medication to address any discomfort during recovery.

Swelling and bruising may be present for a time. You must wear a compression garment for a week or two following the procedure to control swelling. This garment also helps keep the skin in the area tight, allowing it to better conform to the area’s new contours.

You will need to avoid rigorous exercise for a while. However, light walking is encouraged. You can most likely return to work within a few days.
