Am I a Good Candidate for Mastopexy?
The best candidates for a breast lift are physically healthy individuals. People with medical conditions affecting incision healing may not be considered for this procedure.
Other lifestyle factors that can affect incision healing are alcohol consumption and smoking. Avoid drinking alcohol for at least 48 hours before the procedure, and quit smoking for at least four to six weeks before and after your mastopexy.
A mastopexy is best for people who are emotionally prepared to undergo the procedure. Since body appearance varies from person to person, the results will be different for everyone. It is important to set realistic expectations.
Your Mastopexy Consultation
A mastopexy consultation will involve an in-depth conversation with one of our surgeons about your appearance goals. The best surgical techniques for your breast concerns will be discussed.
To help your surgeon plan a safe and complication-free breast lift, you will need to provide your complete medical history. To determine your eligibility for a mastopexy, a physical examination will be performed. You may also need to undergo lab tests like clotting time, bleeding time, and a cardiac clearance.
A highly individualized surgical plan will be prepared to satisfy your aesthetic goals. A date will then be set for your breast lift procedure.
The Procedure
The duration of a breast lift should be about three hours. The mastopexy will begin with administration of general anesthesia. Once the anesthesia takes effect, the surgeon will proceed with creating incisions.
There are three potential incision options for a breast lift. The first, a donut incision, involves two circular incisions around the areola. The second, a lollipop incision, involves a circle around the areola and a vertical incision down to the breast crease. The third, an inverted-T incision, is similar to the lollipop incision but also features a curving horizontal incision across the crease.
Depending on your preference and what you have agreed upon with the surgeon, one of these three types of incisions will be created. Next, excess skin will be removed, and the remaining skin will be tightened. The nipples may be resized and/or repositioned as needed. Finally, all incisions will be closed with the help of stitches.
The Mastopexy Recovery Process
After a mastopexy, patients will need to take time off work. Patients can resume daily activities with minimal effort after the first week. Strenuous activities should be avoided for several weeks.
Stitches will be removed after one to two weeks during a follow-up appointment. It is recommended that patients wear a surgical support bra for a time.
Swelling and bruising will be present in the area but will fade. Patients can use silicone tape or gel on post-surgical marks to improve healing. It will take six to twelve weeks for the breasts to reach their final shape.
How Much Does a Mastopexy Cost?
The total cost of a mastopexy will depend on the amount of work needed for the procedure. The number of hours spent for the procedure will also affect the total price of the breast lift.
